Interview with Mihai Cosmin Ionut

Today’s testimonial is about Mihai Cosmin Ionut, a former student of Jetav Academy who recently wore the Smartlynx uniform and who is a “freshman” in his profession, his first contact with aviation taking place when he signed up for the cabin crew member courses constantly organized by our Academy.

Cosmin, how did you think about this job, what made you think you were right for this job?

I chose this path about a year ago and it is mostly due to my friends who work in the same field and I found their lifestyle very appealling, esppecially by the perks of this job to travel anywhere in the world and, anytime and being paid for it! It is also a job that gives you an aura of uniqueness through the beauty of this field of activity – aviation.

Do you consider that it is an advantage for you to work in a foreign company? Do you see Smartlynx as a job you wanted to get from the beginning?

Andreea, this is my biggest professional achievement so far. I think I was lucky that I was recruited by Smartlynx. It is a fast-growing company, with very good working conditions, new aircrafts and the team is excellent, so I quickly fit in the team and now they are like family to me!

Was the recruitment process difficult, or was it something that seemed difficult for you to approach in the steps you had to take in order to get hired?

I could say that everything was “new” for me, the interview itself with its steps and how it was conducted. I applied online for the position, on the company’s website and I was quickly contacted by the recruitment agency in charge of Smartlynx, I remember it was in only 3 days. Then I had an English interview on SKYPE with a set of 20 average difficulty questions for which I had 15 minutes to solve. Throughout the interview I was monitored online by a recruiter. The following day I had another video call interview with a company representative. I was a little stressed at this stage, it is not easy to establish proactive contact with a stranger on a video call, but the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. I was asked what I know about the company, I was presented with somewhat abnormal situations that happened on board and I was asked to describe my reactions, and at the end I was asked to do a little self-presentation in which to highlight the personal qualities that I am willing to use them to get the maximum satisfaction from this job. The company’s response was as quick as the the entire recruitment process and in 3 days I knew I got accepted for the position!

Did it happen to think that the hardest part of this “new life” had just begun, or did you find the start difficult?

Any start is difficult, but I want to believe that I overcame this period by being involved, having dedication and availability ro learn, but also with the knowledge gained from the Academy’s courses. I have clarified most of the information I had from the academy by correlating it with the practical part, with what I actually saw when actually being in the plane. In order to apply to Smartlynx, you must hold a cabin crew member certificate, but for me as a novice, the Jetav training course clarified a lot of things I didn’t know.

I started from scratch with all the knowledge in aviation, I went step by step with all modules of this course and I had the support of all the school’s instructors.

Do you feel professionally satisfied, are you happy with yourself and your evolution?

I really consider myself professionally fulfilled at this moment, I have the job I truely wanted and I enjoy the benefits that come from this accomplishment. I am convinced that much of my success is due to you, to those who support this whole training process of the students who enroll Jetav Academy and I would like to consider you friends, not just instructors and mentors!

We truly appreciate your kind words…..and of course, you are welcome anytime to our classes to tell the students your experience!

Interview with Ionut Mihai Nastase

Today I am pleased to introduce you to Ionut Mihai Nastase, former student of our Academy, already a crew member of Eurowings.

You told me that you had no knowledge or connection to the aviation until the day you were visiting a relative who worked in this field and you had the idea that it would be nice to be you the one who tells stories about new adventures and new people, and on that occasion you asked for details about what you need to do in order to fullfil your wish!

It is true, Andreea, that day we laughed and made a lot of jokes, and when my in-law-cousin told me that her company was recruiting new staff I went ahead! I asked her what studies should I do or if I needed special training and she told me that I need an internationally recognized certificate from a specialized training school, then I though of your Academy! I saw a commercial on Facebook at your Academy and I liked the way it was presented, I called, signed up to the course and from that moment on everything went smoothly, I barely had time to realize how quicly time had passed!

But at that time you were working in a different field, why did you choose aviation as a professional reorientation, and why as a cabin crew member?

It might sound strange, but I felt that I have to do this, I considered that I need to change something in this particular way and here I am today a cabin crem member at Eurowings. Cabin Crew Member sounds really nice, the uniform is a sign of seriousness and respect and the fact that the job itself requires knowledge from several areas has strenghten my conviction that I made the righr decision.

You chose to wear the Eurowings uniform, how it happened and why have you decided to relocate to their Vienna branch?

I could say I got exactly what I wanted! To fly in new, different destinations, to meet new people, to have a new life. I decided to apply to the position at Eurowings because it is Lufthansa’s low-cost segment, which name represents a guarantee of seriousness and professionalism.

And then, what was the most important – and they chose me to represent them!

Please tell me how the interview was conducted, I would like to take the opportunity for readers to find out details about this.

The interview was structured in 5 stages. The first step was company’s presentation and requirements as well as the salary offer.

The second step was in the English oral exam, in which you had to make a self-presentation and afterwards you had to pick up two random tickets. For example, my tickets had the two questions:

1.What would you do if you won the lottery? – I told them I would buy a plane ticket.

2.Where did you spend your last vacation – I told them my last vacation had been my honeymoon and it was in Dubai.

The third step was a 10 minute English language test, which was an elimination round.

The fourth step was the group test.

The fifth step was the individual interview.

Do you think your new career will be easy? What kind of difficult situations do you expect?

The beginning is hard, nothing is simple, but I have to get out of the confort zone and take the first step. I strongly believe that I will have a wonderful experience, as I just began another chapter of my life! As per the relocation to Vienna, it is a bit difficult, but I am convinced that I will fit in quickly and I will clear this hurdle.

And now I’d like to go back a bit to where everything started, to Jetav Academy and tell me exactly how do you think it helped you to graduate from this course, how do you think you were helped here?

Jetav gave me the opportunity to learn from some of the best instructors in the Romanian aviation industry. People from different areas of aviation, people with extensive experience. People who open their hearts to you and share your memories and experiences in this industry. At Jetav I found the answers to my questions, new knowledge and kind people who shared with me not only knowledge, but even a good part of their life experience.

Apart from the class curriculum, I had practical demostrations at the flight simulator, I was also on board of an aircraft where practical courses were held, which is, from my point of view, extremely important. It is much better to get to touch all the things you talk about the course and see all day in class. For exmaple we had to open and close the aircraft’s door, which might seem very easy, but in reality, the first attempt was quite difficult. But thanks to Jetav instructors I went through this stage too. I was offered everything I needed to learn the basics of this profession and get the certificate.

Should you recommend us, how would you describe our Academy?

You are dedicated, professional with a broad experience in many years of work. The support offered to the students, meaning the support of both during the course and at exams and also at interviews is very important for those who are new in this field. I talk to everyone about what I learned at Jetav!

So we are the ones who awakens new passions, if I may summarize your words!

Thank you very much Ionut congradulations! You are live proof that you can change your destiny if you really want it!

Clear sky and many flights to come!

Interview with Paula Miruna Pagu, winner at Jetav contest

Here’s the story of a dream come true, the winner of the Jetav contest is Paula Miruna Pagu, with whom we are talking today!

I am a responsible person, I work hard to achieve what I want, can adapt to many situations, work under pressure, I am organized, trustworthy, punctual, friendly and joyful.”

That’s what you told me about you when I asked you to describe yourself, and I really liked the level of seriousness and your attitude towards life, even if you are at the beginning of your adulthood. I also know that you are a student, a leader of your faculty group, you receive a scholarship for your good grades, that you have a license for sailplane and when you graduated from high school, you were the top with the highest grades.

You are the great winner of the contest organized by the Jetav Academy, how do you feel now?

I can not describe this feeling in words, I am extremely happy! I actually wanted to sign up for the course, but the contest was at the right time!

How did you find out about this contest and how did you decide to participate?

I learned about the contest on the “How to become a flight attendant” page, I constantly check it because there I find very useful information and they also post interviews that are going to be held. Without hesitation, I decided that I will sign up and I had a good feeling about the contest.

Was it your dream to make a career in aviation or was it an idea that came in the moment you decided to apply sign up to the contest?

It is my dream! Ever since my first encounter with aviation I wanted to spend my life “in the sky”. I was flying to Spain with my parents and before even landing I told my parents I want to become a flight attendant and did not give up that thought for not even a moment. Since then, I managed to take my license on the sailplane and this made my fall in love even more with aviation.

What are your expectations from this course, from our academy?

I want this course to prepare me in all aspects, to get the answers all my questions and to know what to do in any situation.

How you were welcomed by the academy and what are your first impressions of those who will be your teachers, I know that an award ceremony to which you attended along with your family?

That’s right, I attended the ceremony with my parents because they were happy just as much as I was and they constantly supported me. I felt from the first moments that I was warmly welcomed by wonderful and pasionate people. I am sure that the members of this accademy will make sure that I and every other student will receive complete training and that we will find a suitable job. I think I will make beautiful memories and also new friends.

Taking into consideration that you can start the course any time throughout the year, have you thought about when you want to start, how easy do you think it will be tom ove to Bucharest in this period?

I would like to start in the first session, the one that starts in February. I am very excited and curious! I am a person who can easily adapt to changes, I don’t think it will be difficult for me to stay in Bucharest, I also have some friends with whom I can spend my free time, and others from Brasov who will come to visit me. Moreover, as far as I know, Jetav Academy offers accommodation during the course so it will be easy for me.

Do you already have a plan of what you will do after the graduation? How do you think this diploma can help you in getting a job as a cabin crew member?

After graduation I want to take part in the interviews and as soon as possible. I believe that the cabin crew member certificate has a significant value for the employer in view of the selection of the candidates because it proves a higher training of the candidate that will be considered a plus. The Jetav graduates I met at the ceremony told me that Mrs. Mihaela Nastase accompanies all students at the Authority’s examinations and she is with them until they get hired, after which they keep in touch as a family.

Please describe me how you were before starting the course and let’s imagine another you, the one with a cabin crew member licence holder!

So before starting the course I had a lot of questions and things to learn. After I take the crew member license I will have the necessary knowledge and will succeed in achieving my goal!

Thank you and I am waiting for you again after completing the course with your feedback!

Thank you! I will definately do that!

Interview with Elena Pupazan

Our testimonials are a mixture of sincere, unfiltered information, with emotions and smiles and because we want this testimonial field to become constant on our site and at the same time to offer the most useful information. Today we will learn about Elena Pupazan, a beautiful Moldavian stewardess who is a flight attendant for 3 years at Air Bucharest.

Elena, you were born in Moldova and you work as a cabin crew member in Romania. Since when did our country adopt you and why did you choose this job?

At first, I was just dreaming of having such a job. As a child, I used to watch movies with and about aviators, pilots and flight attendants, and when I learned that one of my friends chose this career, I knew exactly which way I would go. But I needed a lot of determination to succeed, because it was not an easy path, but I find myself lucky because I had the chance to graduate from a training course and to get hired right after the graduation.

Do you believe that you had an advantage because you had the cabin crew certificate, was it useful in getting the job you wanted? I know that you have made great efforts to come to Romania alone and to attend the courses of the Aviation School.

You are right, I made great efforts, both financially and psychologically, and the main barrier was the distance from my family. However, the desire to fulfill this dream was much stronger and along with my family’s support (my parents always encouraged me and supported me to follow this path), my dream came true! It is not easy to see your daughter leaving home to go to another country, to do something that no one in my family ever did and to get to fly! Everytime I go back home they look at me with a sort of admiration and respect for what I have done, which is due to the consistency and the seriousness which led to fulfilling my dream. I consider myself a practical, sociable and punctual person and I enjoy the advantage I have, namely to work with people, I like teamwork and I put a lot of passion for this job every day. Aditionally, without the cabin crew certificate, I couldn’t have got a job at Air Bucharest.

Why Romania and not another country where you have the same job and maybe with several extra benefits, at least financially?

It was the first on my priority list because, as I already said, it is closer to home and my family. Moreover, the decision was also influenced by the fact that my boyfriend is here in Romania, and the here is not as in the Middle East for example where there are strict clauses in the working contract regarding the personal life. It’s never easy to have a balanced life, but I’m happy here, I consider myself home in Romania, along with my boyfriend and doing this job I like, knowing that at the end of any flight he is waiting for me, always supportive and always smiling.

Competition is harsh in this area, as you already know. What advice would you give to those who want to pursue this career?

This job offers you the opportunity to have unique life experiences, to meet people from different cultures, because you have the chance to travel frequently, and my advice is to learn as much as possible from the people who already have experience in the field, to be self-confident and to continue working making their dreams come true. With ambition and perseverance, they sure will succeed.

You are gentle, calm and very beautiful. Of course, you’re going to tell me that all flight attendants are like that – but I’d like to find out if you were thinking to go in the Middle East at any of the big airlines there at the beginning of your career?

Aviation is a wonderful world and you have the chance to see and travel around the globe with such airlines as the ones in the Middle East. But I chose Air Bucharest and for me this is the best option to stay close to my family and to work with people with whom I started my career, to fly in crews where the atmosphere is pleasant and relaxed, the program the flight perfectly fits my needs and the fact that we have mostly holiday destinations doesn’t make me feel the pressure of the job, but instead the desire to get to every destination, together with the passengers and to share their opinions about the places they visited. My favorite routes are Antalya (Turkey) and Rhodos (Greece), where I can see the fabulous sea from up high.

Lena, would you recommend Jetav Flight Training as an aviation school for those who want such a career? Why do you think that makes us special compared to others?

My answer is simple and it is based on my direct experience with Jetav instructors who are active members of Air Bucharest’s crews. They are the ones from whom I learned, I started my career and now they are like a second family to me! There are people with whom I constantly fly, with whom I feel safe, with whom I do all recurring courses within the company and from which I continue to learn this beautiful job!

It’s a great advantage to have at this school both experienced instructors and instructors who are constantly flying and they are the first to implement new rules or procedures imposed by legislation or authorities in the field.

Additionally, the stories of personal experience and the fun we had at these courses, hearing about their experiences on all continents, and surely motivates you to discover more and makes you want to fly!

Lena, I can feel your passion in every word. I like your determination and warmth, and for concluding this interview I would like to convey your thoughts to those who want, after reading this article, to become your colleagues, perhaps even from the next recruitment season at Air Bucharest.

No matter how hard the start may seem, you should never stop dreaming, fight for what you want to accomplish, it’s never too late to do what you like, what makes you happy and comfortable!
